Dixie is an AKC-registered Havanese who was handpicked and traveled across the country to join our family in early 2021. Since arriving in the Pacific Northwest, she’s been stealing hearts everywhere she goes. Exceptionally loyal and completely devoted to my husband, Dixie’s personality is both radiant and infectious.
It’s hard to describe exactly what makes her so special—maybe it’s the way she sticks out her tongue, or how she immediately rolls onto her back to show her round little belly the moment she sees you. Either way, she’s a total sucker for belly rubs and has perfected the art of getting them.
Dixie has been fully health tested through Embark Veterinary, ensuring the highest standards of genetic health in our program. Her results showed no detection of Intervertebral Disc Disease (Type I) or Chondrodystrophy and Intervertebral Disc Disease (CDDY/IVDD, Type I IVDD)—conditions that can be common among the Havanese breed.
In addition, Dixie tested clear for all 207 other genetic conditions included in Embark’s comprehensive panel. Her genetic Coefficient of Inbreeding (COI) is a low 7%, indicating excellent genetic diversity.
These results confirm that Dixie is a healthy, genetically sound foundation female for our Havanese and Havapoo program. Her complete Embark report is available for review below.
After a fun road trip across the state in 2021, we picked up tiny Avery and held her the entire way home. From the start, her happy spirit and affectionate nature have shone through. She’s playful and entertaining, yet has an independent streak that makes her both engaging and easygoing.
Avery brings joy and laughter to our home every day. Her closest bond is with my teenage son, though that doesn’t stop her from greeting everyone she meets with her signature full-bodied hellos. Despite her small size, she’s always up for running and playing outside—but she’s just as content to curl up on the couch for a snuggle.
It’s hard to overlook her beauty—her soft coat and striking dark eyes, framed by what looks like perfectly done mascara, were what drew me to her in the first place. She’s truly as lovely inside as she is out.
Health & Genetics
Avery has been health tested through Embark Veterinary, which screens for more than 200 genetic conditions. Her results show that she carries one copy of the Chondrodystrophy and Intervertebral Disc Disease (CDDY/IVDD, Type I IVDD) variant. This means she may have a slightly higher risk for Type I IVDD, a condition that can affect spinal disc health. With intentional breeding practices—pairing her only with males that are clear of this variant—her puppies will not be at genetic risk for IVDD.
In addition to this single carrier status, Avery tested clear for nine breed-relevant conditions and 199 other genetic conditions. Her Coefficient of Inbreeding (COI) is a low 4%, reflecting excellent genetic diversity for her breed mix.
These results confirm that Avery is a healthy and well-screened Cockapoo, and we’re proud to include her in our program with careful, health-conscious breeding plans. Her full Embark report is available below for review.
